Oligodendrogliomas

Oligodendrogliomas are a type of brain tumour that arises from oligodendrocytes, a type of glial cell in the brain. These tumours are typically classified as low-grade (grade II) or anaplastic (grade III), depending on their aggressiveness and rate of growth.

Oligodendrogliomas tend to develop in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, although they can occur in other regions as well.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis usually involves imaging studies such as MRI or CT scans, followed by a biopsy to confirm the presence of an oligodendroglioma and determine its grade.

Treatment

Treatment for oligodendrogliomas typically involves surgical removal of the tumour, followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy. In some cases, especially for low-grade tumours, a "watch and wait" approach may be taken if the tumour is slow-growing and not causing significant symptoms.
