Living with a brain tumour is a challenge. Below are some helpful tips for Patients.

  • Be in charge of your tumour: know everything there is to know about it.
  • Be aware of ALL YOUR OPTIONS.
  • Always have at least 3 consultations.
  • Always remember you are the one who can make any decision you want and you are the one who has to live with it.
  • Think of what you would like done and then find out if it’s possible.
  • Search around – we have two group members who have had surgery in America.
  • Trials: always be the first to ask what trials do you have running?
  • Use other ways, other methods, eg watch the Survivorship video on the Brain Tumour Charity website.
  • Always ask for advice from Hillingdon Brain Tumour Group and other charities.
  • Look into all the healthy food and diets – the Ketogenic diet – this is a diet used for Brain cancer and for epilepsy. It certainly has a good write up but it is hit or miss as it works for some, not for others? One suggested website is canceractive.com, and there are many others.
  • Complete a diary of how you feel – Hillingdon Brain Tumour Group have information diaries that can be completed just ask for one of our packs.
  • Always take short cat naps to recharge energy levels.
  • Get as much help as you can, never be afraid to ask.
  • Keep positive: always chat to someone and always believe in yourself, you’re the best person to know your body.
